Stay private on public Wi-Fi abroad — VPN + eSIM.
An eSIM and a VPN solve different problems, and conflating them is the most common mistake in this category. A travel eSIM gives you mobile data abroad without a physical SIM swap and without roaming charges. It is a connectivity product. It does not encrypt your traffic, hide your location from apps, or stop the network operator seeing which services you connect to. What it does do for privacy is indirect but real: having your own mobile data means you are not dependent on hotel, airport and cafe Wi-Fi, which is where most of the actual risk on a trip sits.
